Eighty nine pages later, I have finally come up with a pattern for the Ron Weasley Blanket. I put a tremendous number of photos into it to make it a decent attempt at explaining how to make it and I'm afraid the pattern is quite lengthy.

I've never written a pattern before so I'm sure it's got errors but I figured I'd have a go at it since no one has come up with a detailed pattern for this popular project yet.
If anyone does decide to use this pattern, I would love to see pictures!

ReplyDeleteI think I might make something wonderful with this pattern. I'm wondering about making a "mini" version that involves making 4" squares instead of 7" squares and using leftovers from other projects. We'll see.

ReplyDeleteOh wow, your blanket is amazing! I saw the movie prop when the exhibition opened in Sydney recently and was absolutely transfixed. I'm thinking of making a more personalised version for myself :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I made the mistake of looking at this when my daughter was nearby. She of COURSE wants it. I told her I would consider making it a "part time project" -- I do love it too! What a great pattern with so much detail! Thank you for sharing it!

You've done a beautiful job on this. I was trying to freeze frame the movies to create one similar when I decided to see if it was already attempted. Can you please tell me which are "firm" squares (ie, based on actual visuals from the movies) and which are "soft" squares (ie: you're take on what frugal Molly would have created from bits and bobs of left-over wool). I've got most of the wool and have started some of the squares but may have difficulty getting all of the colors.

ReplyDeleteI know you wrote this awhile ago, but I LOVE IT! i was thinking you cold save space on the instructions if you grouped all the solid squares together with just instructions such as "Make gold x2..." etc. Just a thought. Thanks for ALL your hard work.

ReplyDeletewould be easy to translate into a crochet version. just crochet a square 7inx7in in the color and striping needed. simple sc or hdc stitch should do it.

I think it’s fascinating that the blanket have all four house crest, Hufflepuff 1E, Gryffindor 3F, 3H, Ravenclaw 4A and Slytherin 7J, for an exemple.. The colors of the house crests are on more places in the blanket as well..

ReplyDeleteShe noted that her example differs from the instruction. The square on the real blanket has the striping. How that helps.
DeleteHow important is it for the squares to be exactly 7x7? I am using a US 9 and I'm having trouble making it so the square is the right size. It keeps getting bigger as I go along. Any tips?
ReplyDeleteThe biggest thing is that the squares all be the same size regardless of your guage. if they are a little bigger or smaller than 7 inches, that is ok so long as they are all the same size. Also, keep in mind the bigger the squares, the bigger the final blanket, so decide if you want to err on the side of a bigger or smaller final product. :) (hope this advice isn't too late)
