Potter Pattern Done!

Eighty nine pages later, I have finally come up with a pattern for the Ron Weasley Blanket. I put a tremendous number of photos into it to make it a decent attempt at explaining how to make it and I'm afraid the pattern is quite lengthy.

Here is a link to check out the monstrosity that is The Ron Weasley Blanket Pattern.

I've never written a pattern before so I'm sure it's got errors but I figured I'd have a go at it since no one has come up with a detailed pattern for this popular project yet.

If anyone does decide to use this pattern, I would love to see pictures!

  1. I am in utter awe! I cannot imagine the number of hours invested in this project... but I thank you from the bottom of my heart! Well done, well done.

  2. I think I might make something wonderful with this pattern. I'm wondering about making a "mini" version that involves making 4" squares instead of 7" squares and using leftovers from other projects. We'll see.

I love the fact that someone sat down and figured this out :)

  4. Oh wow, your blanket is amazing! I saw the movie prop when the exhibition opened in Sydney recently and was absolutely transfixed. I'm thinking of making a more personalised version for myself :)

  5. Oh my goodness, I made the mistake of looking at this when my daughter was nearby. She of COURSE wants it. I told her I would consider making it a "part time project" -- I do love it too! What a great pattern with so much detail! Thank you for sharing it!

  6. Wow! This is so amazing. Thanks for making up a pattern and doing all the detective work involved!

I'm a new knitter, so the idea of getting to work on one 7" square at a time seems less stressful than knitting a blanket. This might become my long term project. Thanks for sharing!

  9. omg...this is amazing!!! I will definitely attempt this for my son. He will be over the moon for it so of course I cannot tell him I am making it. He is now 23 ... maybe I will get it done by the time he is 30 ;0)
Thank you so much for sharing all of your awesome work.

  10. You've done a beautiful job on this. I was trying to freeze frame the movies to create one similar when I decided to see if it was already attempted. Can you please tell me which are "firm" squares (ie, based on actual visuals from the movies) and which are "soft" squares (ie: you're take on what frugal Molly would have created from bits and bobs of left-over wool). I've got most of the wool and have started some of the squares but may have difficulty getting all of the colors.
    Cheers!

  13. I absolutely LOVE Ron and this blanket!!! Thank you sooooo much for figuring this blanket out! I'm probably going to incorporate some other squares I found but I'm super happy you wrote out each block (I'm a step by step/write it all down knitter) and I plan on starting it tonight! Oh by the way, I found the link and pattern on Ravelry! Thank you so much!

  14. This is so great! And so awesome of you to take all this time and share. I was watching Goblet of Fire earlier, noticed Ron's blanket and googled 'Ron's blanket from Goblet of Fire' and was so happy to find your pattern on Ravelry :)

  17. I know you wrote this awhile ago, but I LOVE IT! i was thinking you cold save space on the instructions if you grouped all the solid squares together with just instructions such as "Make gold x2..." etc. Just a thought. Thanks for ALL your hard work.

    1. would be easy to translate into a crochet version. just crochet a square 7inx7in in the color and striping needed. simple sc or hdc stitch should do it.

    2. this one is crochet

  19. I think it’s fascinating that the blanket have all four house crest, Hufflepuff 1E, Gryffindor 3F, 3H, Ravenclaw 4A and Slytherin 7J, for an exemple.. The colors of the house crests are on more places in the blanket as well..

  20. Just found this and I am so excited! Making it for my son for Christmas. Huge Harry Potter fans here, but since he is 27, this will be a subtle nod to his obsession and not all out HP!

  21. B4 is only Olive Green and not oliv green with White and red stripe?

    1. She noted that her example differs from the instruction. The square on the real blanket has the striping. How that helps.

  22. How important is it for the squares to be exactly 7x7? I am using a US 9 and I'm having trouble making it so the square is the right size. It keeps getting bigger as I go along. Any tips?

    1. The biggest thing is that the squares all be the same size regardless of your guage. if they are a little bigger or smaller than 7 inches, that is ok so long as they are all the same size. Also, keep in mind the bigger the squares, the bigger the final blanket, so decide if you want to err on the side of a bigger or smaller final product. :) (hope this advice isn't too late)
